Head Coach
TBD
Teams
Varsity, Junior Varsity (JV), and C Team
What the Coaches Are Looking For
Prior volleyball experience or skills are not required. Prospective student-athletes will be tested and evaluated for their overall athletic ability and volleyball skill level. Coaches will apply the following criteria:
- Athleticism – Coordination and physical strength, stamina, and intelligence. Players should have the ability to learn and perform complex skills. Volleyball rewards explosiveness and those unafraid to attack the ball. Coaches seek coachable athletes with a strong work ethic who want to improve as players and teammates.
- Attitude – Positive, competitive, focused on teamwork, and eager to learn. Extra points for strong leadership skills, effective communication, and willingness to take risks and learn from mistakes.
- Commitment – Dedication to the team with the goal of working together to win and have fun.
- Position – Players whose skills fit specific needs for the team’s overall balance.
- Volleyball Skills (Varsity only) – Knowledge of correct playing form, court positioning, and basic principles. JV and C teams will continue to teach these skills.
Get Ready for Tryouts
Practice Your Skills
If you already know how to play, practice passing, setting, or hitting by peppering with someone or having someone toss you balls. It doesn’t take long to lose the feel for the game, so come to the gym ready, especially for varsity. There are many local volleyball camps, and Pine Creek will host a camp plus at least a month of open gyms. Most important—go out and play volleyball!
Attend Open Gyms
Open gyms provide opportunities to get touches on the ball before tryouts. Camp and open gyms are not required but highly recommended for players wishing to improve skills and participate in the program. Please inform coaches in advance if you have scheduling conflicts (vacations, work, etc.).
Participation in open gyms is free. The gym opens 15 minutes before the start time for court setup.
Equipment
Recommended items include appropriate attire, a water bottle, knee pads, and ankle braces.
Stay in Shape
Maintain your fitness and come to tryouts ready to give your best effort. Suggested exercises to improve or maintain physical fitness during the summer include:
- Plyometrics (jump training)
- Jumping rope
- Sprint training
- Weight lifting
- Bodyweight exercises
You do not need a gym to exercise! No matter where you are during the off-season, we encourage you to maintain your fitness level.
Youth Volleyball Camp
Pine Creek hosts a Youth Volleyball Camp each summer for incoming fourth through ninth graders. This camp is a great opportunity to develop skills and receive pointers before tryouts.
The camp is led by Pine Creek coaches and assisted by current Pine Creek volleyball players. There is a fee to participate.
