About This Opportunity
Students on the Unified Pine Creek Bowling Team got to go bowling once a week during class time along with a few Peer Partners* and coaches. Some had bowled before, others had not. “They really look forward to it!” commented teacher, Danielle Horner. “They come back each week and tell me how well they did and who got what score.”
Being a part of the team isn't just about practice, it's also about having the opportunity to compete. Earlier this month several students participated in a regional competition across multiple school districts. The regional competition allowed students to not only connect with each other outside of school, but also with the wider community, as Special Olympics is something students can be involved in well into adulthood.
“Bowling with them this semester has been amazing!” said teacher, Heather Pinder. “They have demonstrated growth in bowling, social, and problem-solving skills.”
Next semester this same group of students will have the opportunity to participate in a unified soccer team.
Go, Eagles!
*Students who are selected to be a Peer Partner support exceptional education students in their classroom, in mainstream classes, or at a job site.
