Growth of the Program

The demand for this higher-level opportunity was fostered by the orchestra courses middle school students at Chinook Trail Middle have engaged in since the school opened in 2019. Students are now arriving at Pine Creek with more advanced skills which means they’re prepared for greater challenges.

This new group will be the auditioned string ensemble for orchestra, will play more challenging literature, and may travel. Both our Band and Jazz Band programs currently offer regular and advanced level classes. This new course will mean that orchestra students will have the opportunity for higher level classes as well.

The Importance of Music

“No matter where your students go to high school, just have them keep playing,” orchestra conductor, Kate Margrave, told the audience. “They [students] need a break during the day – the opportunity to use the other side of their brain for a bit.”

The Beauty of Making Music Together

Wednesday's concert included separate performances from the Chinook Trail Middle School 7th & 8th Grade Orchestra as well as Pine Creek's String Orchestra and then concluded with both orchestras – a total of 86 students – performing a piece called “Dragon Dances” together.

Go, Eagles!
