How were participants selected?

Each athlete nominated a faculty or staff member who has made a significant impact on their learning journey to join them for a Teacher Appreciation Day practice.

The Teacher Appreciation Practice

“It (the practice) was fun because it met the girls where they are and let us do non-academic activities with them,” said English teacher, Evelyn Platt. As a part of the event teachers practiced passing, dribbling, and shooting with the students, played 3 on 3, and even got to check out a Recuperation Station where there were snacks and foam rollers.

For Val Babbitt, Pine Creek English Teacher and 2018-2019 Educator of the Year, the best drill tested hand-eye coordination. “You had to dribble the ball from cone to cone and then hit the light that was on top of the cone,” she said. “Really, I just got to run around and play – it was a lot of fun!”

The team also gave teachers a coffee mug sporting the team’s annual theme: Mind over Matter. “It’s important that the girls not just be strong basketball players, but strong women as well,” Coach McIntosh said.

No stranger to competition, Spanish Teacher and Girls Soccer Coach, John Frederick, was spotted nailing some layups and perhaps even attempting a dunk. “I loved it!” he said. “I have never been a part of a teacher appreciation event like the one for Girls Basketball. Having the opportunity to interact with the players on the court made it more personal. I felt honored to be there!”

A Job Well Done

Cheers to our Girls Basketball Team for their thoughtfulness and to our faculty and staff for the ways in which they encourage our students daily.
