According to the World Health Organization, (Constitution of WHO: principles), “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

Physical Health

Physical Education and Health Classes

Regular exercise is an essential part of staying healthy. People who are active generally live longer, feel better, and can increase the likelihood of delaying or preventing health complications later in life.

In order to provide students with the opportunity to be fit and stay well, Pine Creek offers a variety of Physical Education courses which may include yoga, power volleyball, racket sports, shooting stars (basketball), Rocky Mountain High, and fitness through dance. We also offer general health courses (in-person) as well as Global Health (all-online).

Families can learn more about our PE and Health courses in the Pine Creek Course Guide and by watching some of these video commercials: PE@PineCreekHS

Athletics

In addition to a variety of PE courses, Pine Creek also offers a number of sports for students to participate in. In the words of Kayla Anderson ('22), "It's not just about playing varsity. Many sports also have a JV and C Team. Everyone can represent their school - take your shot!"

Mental Health

Mental health includes refers to the emotional, psychological, and social well-being of students and staff and affects an individual's ability to handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.

To proactively support their own mental health, we encourage students to do the following:

Get Involved! Find Your Place.

Play a sport. Perform in a play or concert. Compete in a career field. Join a club, or start one! Discover a new activity or dive deeper into a current one. Whatever your interests, there is a place for you at Pine Creek.

Join Sources of Strength

Students have the opportunity to be a part of a group called Sources of Strength, a student-centered program that empowers the Pine Creek student body in identifying and accessing individual strengths in their own lives.

With an emphasis on naming supports that can be found in family, positive friends, mentors, healthy activities, habits of generosity, mental health, medical access, and spirituality (Note: "spirituality" is defined as, "having a connection to something outside yourself." Examples may include, but are not limited to nature, deep thinking, other people, church, religion, etc.), Sources of Strength aims to increase help-seeking behaviors and promote connections between caring peers and adults.

As part of Sources of Strength students and staff will highlight and provide multiple sources of support so that when times get hard students have multiple strengths they can rely on. Read More
