Bio

Hello and welcome to Gardiner's webpage.  I am a computer programming teacher and the Computer Science department chair.  After graduating from Vanderbilt University I worked in industry as a computer programmer and computer systems analyst.  I then served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Federated States of Micronesia, teaching English as a Second Language.  I studied Math and Tech Education at Columbia University and Florida State University in order to become a teacher.  I have been teaching computer programming at Pine Creek since its opening in 1998.  I was awarded the Aspirations in Computing Colorado Educator Award by the National Center for Women & Information Technology in 2011 and the Colorado Technology Educator of the Year by the Colorado Technology Association in 2015.  I also coach competitive swimming and sometimes do database and Java teacher training for Oracle.  In 2019 I acted as a Reader for the A.P. Computer Science exam for the first time, helping to grade about 71,000 APCS exams.  It was a great experience - learning how the College Board's A.P. exam grading process works and seeing how other students write their code - and I plan to continue in that role every June.  I have a passion for Colorado, the Rocky Mountains, and the outdoors.  I spend my free time swimming, cycling, hiking, snowshoeing, camping, traveling ... and grading.
