American Sign Language Club

Mission: The primary mission of ASL Club is to encourage and recognize achievement in ASL studies for high school and college/university students.  ASL Club seeks to enrich the overall learning experience of those studying ASL.

 

American Sign Language Honor Society

Sponsor(s): Brian Bennett and Alyssa Bennett

Mission: Since its inception in 2006, the American Sign Language Honor Society (ASLHS) has become a valued addition to the field of ASL education. Its primary mission is to encourage and recognize high academic achievement in ASL studies for high school and college/university students. Like honor societies for other languages, the ASLHS seeks to enrich the overall learning experience of those studying ASL.

Creek Connection

Sponsor(s): Jen Tews and Russ Davie

Mission: To mentor incoming freshmen and help them make the transition to high school, and to encourage them to become an active part of the Pine Creek community. Applications for Creek Connection are available in the spring and only current sophomores and juniors may apply.

 

CyberPatriot

Sponsor(s): Steve Errickson

Mission: At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. The competition puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. In the rounds of competition, teams are given a set of virtual images that represent operating systems and are tasked with finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the images and hardening the system while maintaining critical services in a six-hour period.  Teams compete for the top placement within their state and region, and the top teams in the nation earn all-expenses paid trips to Baltimore, MD for the National Finals Competition where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money.

 

Deans' Student Advisory Committee

Mission: Students on the Deans' Advisory Committee will provide the student voice regarding school concerns. Students must be in good academic and behavior standing. Application for participation with a teacher recommendation is required.


DECA

Sponsor(s): Jeff Back and Lindsay Edy

Mission: DECA is much more than a business club - it is a marketing and entrepreneurship program. The four points of the DECA diamond represent DECA's guiding principles and the polished leaders DECA prepares. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.  In DECA, you have the opportunity to attend conferences and compete in different locations across the country.  Being in DECA gives you job experiences and skills that you can bring into the real world. To be in DECA, you must be enrolled in a Marketing Course which you can begin taking sophomore year. DECA prepares the next generation of leaders to be: Academically Prepared, Community Oriented, Professionally Responsible, Experienced Leaders. *This program is a course at Pine Creek with extracurricular competition or performance components.

French Club (Club Français)

Mission: French Club promotes the sudy of the French language and culture to reinforce and enhance learning that takes place in class. Students will explore francophone culture and meet new students.


French National Honor Society

Mission: The aim of this organization is to stimulate interest in the study of French, to reward high scholastic achievements in the study of French, to create enthusiasm for understanding the Francophone cultures, and to reward efforts that further enthusiasm for French in our high school.

 

Friends of Rachel Club

Sponsor(s): Jeff Keller and Kate Margrave 

Mission: The mission of the Friends of Rachel Club is to: create a safe learning environment for all students by re-establishing civility and delivering proactive anecdotes regarding school violence and bullying; improve academic achievement by engaging students' hearts, heads and hands in the learning process; provide students with social/emotional education that is both color blind and culturally relevant; train adults to inspire, equip and empower students to effect permanent positive change; promote random acts of kindness throughout the school year.


German Club

Mission: Calling all students with a passion for all things German!  German Club at Pine Creek is about to begin.  For those of you intrigued by the German language and the products and practices of the German-speaking people, this club is for you.  We will have several after school activities throughout the year to further our exposure to the German culture, including movies and games, guest speakers, holiday traditions, and, of course, German food.  Through these activities, we hope to earn a greater understanding both of the language as well as the people who speak it.


German National Honor Society (Delta Epsilon Phi)

Sponsor(s): Jillian Lykens

Mission: The German National Honor Society not only rewards scholastic achievement in German but also helps students promote interest in the study of the German language and literature through volunteer work and service to their communities.  Students who meet a minimum GPA are eligible to join after completing at least three semesters of German courses and can look forward to a variety of cultural activities and volunteer events throughout the year.


GSA of Pine Creek

Mission: The GSA at Pine Creek is a student-led organization intended to provide a safe and supportive environment for all LGBTQ+ students and their allies. GSA exists to advocate, educate, and support students at Pine Creek High School.


HOSA (Future Health Professionals)

Mission: The purpose of the HOSA organization is to develop leadership and technical HOSA skill competencies through a program of motivation, awareness, and recognition, which is an integral part of the Health Science Education instructional program.

International Thespian Society

Mission: The International Thespian Society is an international honor society for students of theatre, including but not limited to: performers, technicians, playwrights, designers, composers, and audience members. The troupe is lead by a team of student Thespian Officers and an adult troupe director.


Iris & Mario Mentors

Mission: A mentor program for Challenger and Chinook Trail middle school 8th grade gifted and talented students to assist in their transition from the end of middle school to high school.


Knowledge Bowl

Sponsor: Megan White

Mission: Knowledge Bowl is an interdisciplinary, academic contest in which teams of students compete on the basis of their ability to recall information relating to practically any part of the secondary curriculum. Although the Knowledge Bowl has every appearance of a contest, the most important intent is the celebration of knowledge and the recognition of students and schools committed to scholastic excellence.


Math Club

Mission: The purpose of Math Club is to promote the pursuit of mathematical love and knowledge. 


Math Honor Society (Mu Alpha Theta)

Sponsor: April Pierce

Mission: Mu Alpha Theta is an organization that formed to engender keener interest in mathematics, to develop sound scholarship in the subject, and to promote enjoyment of mathematics among high school and two-year college students. It is co-sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges. This club participates in several group and individual competitions throughout the year, meets monthly, and is open to any Pine Creek High School student that enjoys math.


National Arts Honor Society

Mission: The mission of the Pine Creek chapter of National Art Honor Society is to further creative abilities and talents of the Society's members, to increase an awareness of art in relation to other areas of the school's curriculum, and to bring art to the attention of the school and community.

National Honor Society of Dance Arts

Mission: The National Honor Society of Dance Arts recognizes outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in students studying dance in public, private, and K-12 schools. 


National English Honor Society

Mission: The National English Honor Society (NEHS) recognizes the academic accomplishments of America's high school students and promotes their continuing interest in the English language arts. NEHS is the only high school honor society exclusively for students of English. As such, it provides a unique opportunity to engage students, teachers, and local schools in the valuable experience of discipline-related national honor-society participation.

National Honor Society

Mission: The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demosntrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. National Speech & Debate Honor Society

Mission: The National Speech & Debate Honor Society recognizes speech and debate accomplishments in community service, public speaking, and leadership activiites.

 

National Tech Honor Society

Mission: The Pine Creek chapter of the NTHS was founded in 2011 with the goals of: promoting achievement, scholarship, good character, ethical practices, and leadership in Pine Creek students; nurturing an interest in and the pursuit of technology education and careers in Pine Creek students; developing collaboration and collegiality among Pine Creek technology students and with the greater Pine Creek community.

Quill and Scroll Journalism Honor Society

Mission: Quill and Scroll is an international high school journalism honor society, honoring the best work done by student journalists around the world since 1926.

 

Rocky Mountain Robotics

Mission: The team is open to all Academy District 20 high school students and no experience or special skills are required to be a part of this award-winning organization. Rocky Mountain Ro botics is a student run team set up like a real business. The team prepares students for the real world and provides a fun opportunity to learn new skills while having a good time. We build people who build robots while encouraging students to reach as high as they can dream.

Science National Honor Society

Mission: The purpose of this organization shall be to encourage participation in and recognition of scientific and intellectual thought, to advance the students' knowledge of classical and modern science, to communicate with the scientific community, to aid the civic community with its comprehension of science, and to encourage students to participate in community service and, in turn, encourage a dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge that benefits all mankind.


Screamin' Eagles

Sources of Strength

Mission: Sources of Strength is a best practice youth suicide prevention project designed to harness the power of peer social networks to change unhealthy norms and culture, ultimately preventing suicide, bullying, and substance abuse. The mission of Sources of Strength is to prevent suicide by increasing help seeking behaviors and promoting connections between peers and caring adults. Sources of Strength moves beyond a singular focus on risk factors by utilizing an upstream approach for youth suicide prevention. This upstream model strengthens multiple sources of support (protective factors) around young individuals so that when times get hard they have strengths to rely on.


Spanish Honor Society

Mission: Los Pinos Nuevos de La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH):  The New Pines chapter of the Spanish Honor Society at Pine Creek High School is under the Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.  Los Pinos Nuevos has 53 members who enjoy learning about and experiencing Hispanic cultural events and traditions.  Students are eligible to apply for membership when they are taking upper level Spanish class—levels 3, 4 and AP.

 

Speech and Debate Team

Mission: There are seven speech categories to choose from. The debate program offers two types of debate; Lincoln Douglas or Public Forum. The team also competes in student Congress, where students write, propose and debate legislation. Check the course catalog for the Forensics elective; this class will give you time to write and practice your speeches or interpretations.*This club is also a course at Pine Creek with extracurricular competition or performance components.


Student Athletic Trainers Club

Sponsor(s): Stephen Reed

Mission: To apply knowledge learned about the human body and to pursue interests in Athletic Training


Student Council (StuCO)

Mission: Student Council at Pine Creek is both a class and an extracurricular event. Students on Student Council will use one of their elective periods to be in a class that focuses on leadership growth and development, as well as to work in committees and class councils to organize, plan, and implement different events and programs for the school. *This program is a course at Pine Creek with extracurricular competition or performance components.

Tri-M Music Honor Society

Sponsor(s): Dan Jeppson and Kate Margrave

Mission: The goal of the Tri-M Music Honor Society is to foster greater interest in band, orchestra, and choral performance and to provide more opportunities for personal musical expression. Students are selected for membership in the honor society on the basis of musicianship, scholarship, character, leadership, and service to their school and community. The organization's high standards serve to challenge students to greater effort and achievement and to encourage them in the pursuit of excellence.

Writer's Guild

Sponsor(s): Nan Gefreh

Mission: Writers' Guild is a weekly club where students have the opportunity to write and share their work with others. We focus on a collaborative working environment in order to foster a sense of community and develop creative writing skill. Each meeting begins with a writing prompt, followed by activities designed to improve storytelling ability. From October through November, we focus on NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) through which we encourage members to write a novel of 50,000 words. Throughout second semester, the club works on a group project (past ones include a movie script, a radio show, and a short story collection). It's a great opportunity for aspiring writers to find and become a part of a close knit community of like-minded people.  New members are always welcomed! 


Yearbook

Sponsor: Jo Powell

Mission: This program is a course at Pine Creek with extracurricular competition or performance components.


Students who participate in Yearbook are responsible for the production of Pine Creek's award-winning yearbook, Talon. Students use various types of software involved in publishing and exercise the basic principles of journalism, publishing, photography, and layout design. 


The class itself is run as much like a

professional publication as possible. Staff members work in teams and specialize in certain areas of print production, such as writing, editing, computer layout and graphics, business management, and photography.
